Multistage Lot Sizing Problems via Randomized Rounding
We study the classical multistage lot sizing problem that arises in distribution and inventory systems. A celebrated result in this area is the 94% and 98% approximation guarantee provided by power-of-two policies. In this paper, we propose a simple randomized rounding algorithm to establish these performance bounds. We use this new technique to extend several results for the capacitated lot si...
متن کاملImproved Randomized Approximation Algorithms for Lot-Sizing Problems
We consider in this paper multi-product, lot-sizing problems that arise in manufacturing and inventory systems. We describe the problem in a manufactruring setting. There is a set N of products. For each product j E N there is a set ~-j (called predecessors of product j) of products consumed in producing product j. We define the product network G to be a directed network with node set N and arc...
متن کاملA Randomized Local Search Heuristic for Lot Sizing in Multistage Assembly systems
Multistage production systems consider the production of items at more than one level. There are three general classes of such systems: (1) assembly systems where each stage requires inputs from one or more immediate predecessor stages but supplies exactly one immediate successor, (2) arborescent systems where each stage has exactly one predecessor stage but could have several immediate success...
متن کاملHybrid Tabu Search for Lot Sizing Problems
This paper presents a hybrid tabu search strategy for lot sizing problems. This strategy allows the exploitation of the quality of the well-known relax-and-fix heuristic, inside a tabu search framework which enforces diversity. The computational results show an advantage of this strategy when compared to a version of the relax-and-fix heuristic and to time constrained branch-and-bound.
متن کاملErgo-Lot-Sizing: Considering Ergonomics in Lot-Sizing Decisions
One aspect that has mostly been overlooked in traditional economic lot-sizing is the implication of decisions on manual tasks and workload. Although lot-sizing decisions can have a significant impact on required manual material handling and on human performance, works that consider ergonomic aspects in lot-sizing are rare. This paper presents a model that integrates ergonomic aspect in terms of...
